Here are some nice, public beaches to visit near Petoskey, Michigan.
In Northern Michigan, we only get the warm weather for a couple of short months, so when it is nice, you have to make sure that you soak up the sun while you can!
- Petoskey State Park
Located 5 miles in between Petoskey and Harbor Springs, the Petoskey State Park is a beautiful open space to lay out and swim in Lake Michigan. There are also many sandy dunes that you can hike or explore in too. While you are there, make sure you stroll the shoreline and try to find your own Petoskey Stone. I suggest dipping it in the water if you are unsure if you can see the hexagonal, fossilized coral pattern.
- Camp Petosega
Camp Petosega is a campground located on Pickerel Lake that has an open, public beach. Even though it is a campground, the beach is always free for the public. There is a playground, a little shop, and a pavilion that you can rent for parties as well.
- Walloon Lake
On the way to Boyne City from Petoskey, there is a small, public beach where you can stop and swim in Walloon Lake. It is located just past Barrelback, which is a great restaurant to stop at after you swim! Make sure you take a dip too because Walloon’s water is always warmer too because it is a smaller lake.
