The Katydid is Turning One

It’s not everyday that a retail store can celebrate turning one. On May 10, 2018, The Katydid opened shop in downtown Petoskey on East Lake Street, next door to the iconic Grandpa Shorter’s Gifts. Items from the Great Lakes State and beyond adorn the one-of-a-kind gift shop.

“It’s our birthday but it’s all about you. We want to give thanks to our community and visitors,” said The Katydid manager, Malina Flock. “We’re so thankful for everyone’s support and we want to celebrate!”

On May 10, 2019 from 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., everyone is invited to join The Katydid team for cake, bubbly, door prizes, party favors, and to save 20% off everything in the store.

“It’s exciting to see a dream come to fruition. I love hearing from guests that they enjoy shopping at The Katydid,” said owner Jennifer Shorter. “When we were choosing a name, The Katydid stuck for many reasons. One of which is a similar-sounding nickname I gave my daughter when she was little, ‘Katie Bug’. It means so much to add this store to our family legacy of gift shops in downtown Petoskey.”
